Hi, My name is Hope!!! I am from Dover, Delaware. And I am in love with everything the state of Delaware has to offer. I never fail to be amazed by our agriculture industry and the community it provides my family and me.
Our state has corn, soybeans, chickens and so much more. We can enjoy the city, farmland, and beaches without driving far. I learned from a young age that the role agriculture has in our daily lives is vast. I am continuously learning about the various mediums of agriculture.
With so many amazing career possibilities, It took me a long time to decide to be a veterinarian. I considered careers in agriculture education, cooperative extension, animal or produce farming, and even careers in human medicine! To say the least, my dream to be a veterinarian was a long time coming. It took many late nights thinking about what I wanted most out of life, shadowing and talking to professionals from the professions listed above and it took understanding that failure is okay as long as you don’t give up.
I am an ambitious and enthusiastic pre-veterinary student. I am so excited and honored to be on a journey to veterinary school.
Even on the days where I got paranoid with statistics or got frustrated with certain chemistry or biology concepts, I have never regretted my major and the career I am pursuing. Today, I love everything about animal science and the many directions it can take. The areas that interest me the most are research, poultry production, and one health practices.
As much as I would like to say that the journey was straightforward and easy… it wasn’t!
It was hard to declare a major in a field that my family was not familiar with. It was hard to experience my first C in a college class. And it was hard to find experiences to uniquely build my resume… and be confident in it.
I have recently decided that my life goal is to have a positive impact on my community and its overall health and I think veterinary medicine is the best way to do that.
My hope is to help other aspiring veterinary students reach their goals.
Since it’ll be a few years before I can impact my community with my knowledge of veterinary medicine, I decided to help other pre-veterinary students like me.
Despite any hardship, I always had hope.
I have so many people who have helped answer tough questions about myself, make difficult life decisions and encouraged me to pursue my dreams.
Everything from family to academic advisors, teachers, peers, coaches, and organizational leaders.
It was because of them that I have hopes and dreams I know that I can fulfill.
I hope, with this blog, to share my experiences from high school, college, and one-day veterinary school, to help other students be confident in their decisions, their academics, and futures.
If you have questions about picking a major, staying financially stable in college, or how to deal with mental health throughout school. Then this is the blog for you.
